The Greens – Girly-Men? Never!

Why, we all know the Greens.
They’re so often seen
Wearing blue jeans
And eating their beans
And sometimes sardines
With their raw cuisine
In simple canteens
Set in a natural scene
Which have outdoor latrines.
Our television screens
Show they like marines
If not submarines
And other machines
Which use gasoline.
And they’re kind to queens
Because of their genes.
When the party convenes
With Bob and Christine
They go into routines
About limited means
And they find it obscene
Lib and Labor has-beens
Smash their Mr. Cleans
To complete smithereens!

UPDATED    06/12/11 in response to a comment at the Pollbludger where

Bemused @ 1561 has difficulty with Green logic.   Surely not? They’re quite straightforward, really.

We all know the Greens.
They’re so often seen
Wearing blue jeans
And eating their beans
In simple canteens
Camped in natural scenes
Where they ban nicotine
And its nitrosamines.

They hate submarines
And other machines
Which use gasoline.
They don’t like the Brits’ Queen.
By that they don’t mean
Their own kind of ‘queens’
Whom others demean
Because of their genes.

When their party convenes
With Bob and Christine
They go into routines
On how much it means
That their Mr. Cleans
Hold the balance between
Lib and Labor has-beens,
And how soon will be seen
The day when the Greens
Smash both to complete smithereens!

fredn,      06/12/11,    PatriciaWA,  it’s harsh but it’s very good.

bemused,    06, 12/11,   PatriciaWA @ 1713    I find that poem quite disturbing.  Should I take off my blue jeans immediately?

Patricia wa,   06/12/11,    Bemused, your impulse to disrobe suggests you found some of my lines pleasantly disturbing! If otherwise please forgive any offence given.    I did think twice about using those references to royalty when I pulled up and edited that old pome originally written in defence of the Greens in response to discussion around this sort of thing at  http://gothamist.com/2011/04/22/earth_day_is_going_green_too_girly.php.

If I weren’t an old rusted on Labour Party red I would be supporting the Greens on most issues, except that I know things have to get done. The greens just won’t compromise. On marriage equality, for all the criticism of Julia Gillard’s stand, without her management the issue would not be coming before Parliament so soon. My Green friends liked the original pome, by the way, and none were offended by terms I used.

While on things Green I do wish S HY would shut up and think through the practicalities of her idealism about the rights of refugees to drown themselves and their children in seeking asylum here. Less volubly vocal, but just as misguided about this in my view is my own MHR, a former UN human rights advocate. I am hopeful that Bowen and the PM will continue working together with other governments in consultation with UNHCR to come up with a regional processing centre which is practical, fair and ends the exploitation of human misery by people smugglers.

Pegasus,    06, 12/11,  PatriciaWA says  The greens just won’t compromise.  Ever?  On everything?   Just a meme.

Talk Turkey,    07/12/11,   Patricia You’re on a roll!   Very clever to use so many -eens so uncloyingly!      Usually I don’t like the rappy sort of scene,  bean /keen /clean /dean /fien(d)/ green /   well-you-know-what-I-mean,  but you have managed it very well indeed.
